We have been fortunate to receive grants from Great Torrington Almshouse, Town Lands and Poor Charities, Devon County Council and the Councillor Locality (Community) Budget Award in recent months which means that the memory café can continue for the foreseeable future. All the hard work to secure the funding is down to John Portman our volunteer fundraiser. Unfortunately he is soon to move away from the area so we are in great need of another fundraiser to ensure the future of the Memory Café. If you feel that you have the necessary skills and the time please let us know.
January’s Café was a great success with a number of new customers. As well as the usual tea, cakes and socializing with friends, we had a presentation from Brenda Laker who is the project manager for Hikmat, a co-operative who provide a foot care service. Brenda and her team are hoping to set up a clinic in Torrington.
In March we are going to be preparing for Easter with an optional activity making Easter bonnets or Easter Eggs!! Melanie, one of our dedicated volunteers is going to be running this activity.
If you, a family member or friend has a memory problem then do come along and joins us – you will receive a warm welcome as well as the opportunity to meet others with similar problems.
