In March the Memory Café will be visited by a representative from Amano Connect, which produces technological equipment to help people with dementia live in their own homes.
In April we will be open on the second and fourth Thursday and will continue with the two café meetings until September. On April 9th we have the duet 'Dogleg' making a return visit to the café to entertain us. On April 23rd we will be having a reminiscence session.
The Memory Café enables people with dementia/memory loss and their families/ carers to get peer support from others who have the same difficulties.
Peer support promotes self-care, independence, wellbeing and choice. The Café enables people to meet regularly with others. It is an informal environment which provides information about dementia/memory loss, gives practical tips about coping with dementia, provides a social network and a forum where advice can be given by health and social care professionals. It also offers emotional support and reduces social isolation.
We operate on a drop in basis between 10.30am and 12.30pm, everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy a cuppa and biscuits/cake, as well as regular activities. The cafe is held at the Torrington Arms, New Street.
